At our biennial Synod last weekend, Diocesan Bishop Andrew Asbil appointed a select group of Clergy (and one Layperson) as Canons of St. James Cathedral. The honour is given by the Bishop to those who’ve offered extraordinary leadership & service to the broader church.

Those in church on Sunday will have heard me announce the good news that our very own Pamela Rayment was named a Canon! It was wonderful to hear the congregation respond with spontaneous clapping and shouts of joy!

Here were the Bishop’s exact words:

“Pamela Rayment,  St Clement, Eglinton: For her work as Associate Incumbent at St Clement, Eglinton, faithful service as Regional Dean for Eglinton and for her dedicated leadership of the Netminders Group, helping our Diocese live into the Cast The Net Calls.”

Serving alongside Pam - going on seven years now - has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and ministry. And I know just how much she treasures her ministry among you, the people of St. Clement’s. Please join me in congratulating Pam, as she’s recognized in the wider church for the gifts we witness so abundantly with us, week in and week out.

The installation service for all the Canons will take place at St. James Cathedral on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 4:30 pm. All are welcome. I invite you to join me there as we make it a celebration and service to remember!

Yours truly in Christ,

Andrew
