On Sunday, October 1st, wear your orange shirts as we commemorate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th).
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time for us to share together in the spirit of healing reconciliation and wear orange shirts in recognition and honour of Residential School survivors, their families and their communities. We remember the lived truth of Indigenous families whose children and youth were taken and legally forced to attend Residential Schools, and we promise never again.
Here are a few places to get your orange shirt that will support Indigenous businesses, projects and initiatives:
· Indigenous Marketing Solutions www.shop.indigenousmarketing.ca. All proceeds support Indigenous-let community programs that support Residential School Survivors
· Native Arts Society www.nativeartssociety.bigcartel.com.
· Old’s Cool General Store in East York proceeds support Anishnawbe Health Toronto.
Orange Shirt Sunday is just one thing our parish does as part of our commitment to raise awareness about the truth of Canadian history as it pertains to Indigenous people. We also provide modest financial support to the Toronto Urban Native Ministry and to INDSPIRE for post-secondary scholarships. Contributions towards Indigenous justice are always welcome and can be made via our website at stclementsto.ca/donate or by cheque noting Outreach - Indigenous Scholarships & Support.
