Dear St. Clement’s community and friends:
Last week we shared with you the news of the death of Tom Fitches.
Tom served St. Clement’s as Director of Music for 42 years, retiring in 2015. The bell in our bell tower is named, “Faithful Tom,” for this man who embodied this particular fruit of the Spirit so wholeheartedly.
Despite a cancer diagnosis, Tom continued to serve, play, and teach in churches throughout the city, most recently at Grace Church on-the-Hill. Tom remained Organist Emeritus of St. Clement’s, joining us as recently as last summer for a month of Sundays.
We will gather with family and friends for Tom’s funeral service on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11am at St. Clement’s, with a reception to follow. The service will be livestreamed from our YouTube page.
As per the wishes of Tom’s family, donations to The Tom Fitches Fund at St. Clement’s are welcomed. This fund was established in 2015 and supports music in all its forms at St. Clement’s. Donations can be made either by cheque payable to St. Clement’s Church (70 St Clements Ave, Toronto, ON M4R 1H2) or by e-transfer to finance@stclementsto.ca with “Tom Fitches Fund “ in the memo/comment field.
